PIANO SYNTAX

Terms of Use

Last updated: July 2026

Piano Syntax is made by Tristan Waley in Ontario, Canada. By using the app you agree to these terms. They are written to be read, so they are short.

WHO THIS AGREEMENT IS WITH

This agreement is between you and Tristan Waley. It is not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for Piano Syntax or its content and has no obligation to provide support for it. Apple is a third party beneficiary of these terms and may enforce them against you.

USE

Piano Syntax is provided for personal educational and practice purposes. You have a personal, non-transferable licence to use it on Apple devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store Terms of Service. You may not reproduce, redistribute, or sell content from the app without written permission.

YOUR OWN WORK

Charts, songs, and practice material you create in the app belong to you. They are stored on your device. We do not claim ownership of them and we cannot see them.

MUSIC THEORY CONTENT

Music theory is interpretive. Teachers, editors and performers disagree about chord spelling, harmonic analysis, degree naming, voicing conventions and terminology, and more than one answer is often defensible. Where this app presents one convention, it does not claim that convention is the only correct one.

Content may also contain errors, omissions, or simplifications. Piano Syntax is a study and practice tool, not an authoritative reference. Check anything that matters against a teacher or a published edition before relying on it for teaching, performance, examination, or publication.

If you find something you believe is wrong, please report it so it can be corrected.

PURCHASES

Some features require Piano Syntax Pro. It is available as a monthly subscription, a yearly subscription, or a one-time lifetime purchase.

Subscriptions renew automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase.

Manage or cancel a subscription in your Apple ID account settings. We cannot cancel it for you.

Where a free trial is offered, it converts to a paid subscription unless you cancel before it ends. If you buy a subscription during a trial, any unused part of the trial is forfeited.

Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Request one through Apple.

The lifetime purchase is a one-time payment tied to your Apple ID. It is not a promise of any particular future feature.

IF A SUBSCRIPTION ENDS

Work you created stays yours. If a subscription lapses, you keep every chart and song you made, you can still read them, and you can still export them. Some features and limits return to the free level, so you may not be able to create or edit beyond that level. Nothing you already made is taken away or locked.

DISCLAIMER

This app is provided as-is without warranty of any kind. We are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the app. This includes any loss arising from reliance on chord names, degree labels, note spellings, harmonic analyses, exercises, or lesson material, whether or not that content contained an error.

CONSUMER RIGHTS

Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law where you live. Where a term here conflicts with such a right, the right applies.

CHANGES

Features and content change as the app is updated. These terms may change too. The date at the top shows when they last did. If a change is significant, it will be flagged in the app.

GOVERNING LAW

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein.
