Classical piano and contemporary piano learning approaches are different simply because the music styles have different skill requirements that must be prioritized when learning and practicing. Developing proficiency at the piano will likely rely on a combination of both classical and contemporary exercises and tools.
A more classical piano approach would primarily focus on prioritizing music reading skills and building technique, co-ordination and agility at the piano to be able to replicate and interpret classical repertoire. A contemporary piano approach primarily focuses on chords, dealing with chord construction skills, common chord progressions, reading song charts, creating rhythmic grooves and improvisation methods to replicate and interpret contemporary songs.
These notes pull from both classical and contemporary methods.
