Adjust the piano stool, so your elbow is at a 90degree angle when you place your hands on the piano keys. Make sure you are sitting on a comfortable stool and positioned in the middle of the stool without hanging off any of the sides. Your feet should be planted firmly on the ground parallel with each other and your back nice and straight. Position your body aligned with Middle C. Relax your shoulders, arms, and reduce any build-up of anxiety, stress, or tension. Make sure you are comfortable pivoting from left to right from your waist. By slightly leaning into the piano from your waist gives an optimal angle to reduce arm tension. Lastly, if you approach your instrument with a nonchalant attitude, it will come through in the music, be alert and astute. This is your ready position.
